Beaches of Morro de São Paulo

5 beaches, 5 vibes — from party to total seclusion.

5 Beaches, 5 Experiences

Morro de São Paulo has five numbered beaches running north to south. The one you choose to stay at defines your entire trip. No cars — you walk on sand or take a boat. Below is an honest breakdown of each one.

Surf & adventure

First Beach

5 min from pier

The shortest and closest to the village. The only beach with consistent waves for surfing. The zipline from the Lighthouse lands here, and from the rocks you access the Fort — the island's iconic sunset spot.

Length

~300m

Sea

Light waves

Structure

Minimal

Tip

Not great for families — waves and rocky bottom. Best as a pass-through to the Fort or for surfers.

Ideal for

Surfers, photographers, sunset chasers

Party, food & nightlife

Second Beach

10 min from pier

The gravitational center of the island. Restaurants, beach bars, guesthouses and all the nightlife. Shallow calm water — you can walk dozens of meters without losing your footing. Beach clubs with DJs start mid-afternoon.

Length

~400m

Sea

Shallow & calm

Structure

Full

Tip

Front-row rooms have amazing views but noise until 3am. Side-street guesthouses offer better value and more quiet.

Ideal for

Young travelers, groups, nightlife lovers

Families, snorkel & natural pools

Third Beach

15 min from pier

The perfect balance. Enough structure for a comfortable day, calm sea protected by reefs, and the departure point for all boat tours (Volta à Ilha, Boipeba). At low tide, crystal-clear natural pools form over the corals.

Length

~800m

Sea

Reef-protected

Structure

Good

Tip

Check the tide chart. Natural pools only appear below 0.4m tide. Low-tide mornings = best photos.

Ideal for

Families with kids, couples, beginner divers

Seclusion & nature

Fourth Beach

35 min from pier

Five kilometers of virtually empty sand. No bars, no noise, no crowds. The only buildings are eco-resorts hidden in the vegetation. At low tide, isolated sandbars form private lagoons hundreds of meters from shore.

Length

~5km

Sea

Calm & warm

Structure

Resorts only

Tip

Bring water and sunscreen. No shops along the way. If you plan to dine at Second Beach, plan the walk back — no lighting at night.

Ideal for

Honeymooners, readers, silence seekers

Exclusive & remote

Fifth Beach (Encanto)

Boat or 4x4

The farthest, emptiest and most expensive. Separated from Fourth Beach by a river, only accessible by boat or resort 4x4. Premium resorts with full-service restaurants and private transfers. Zero beach vendors.

Length

~1km

Sea

Crystal clear

Tip

If you're not staying here, hire a boat from Third Beach (R$40-60/person). Book resort lunch in advance.

Ideal for

Resort guests, special occasions, total privacy
